TRIED AND TESTED: FOREO LUNA MINI

Updated: Jan 18, 2020

ABOUT THE BRAND:

Foreo is a Swedish beauty company - but more so on the tech side of things. They started back in 2013, and has been a game changer in the industry - mainly their LUNA product line. So much so, that before they came to market, the top dog was Clarasonic. Now days there are so many dupes of their Luna product line its hard to keep track. They also do sonic silicone toothbrush (which I also own), facial mask device, LED acne light, and an eye massage tool.

SPECIFIC PRODUCT I OWN:

I haver the original luna mini, which I bought myself back in 2015 - so almost 5 years ago, and it's still going strong. I purchased the "Save the Sea" Edition, which all proceeds go to 2 charities: Greenwave (creates and protects ocean farming) and Sea Life Trust (ocean conservation). Since my purchase, they have released a Luna mini 2 and now a Luna mini 3 - in principle, the product is still the same with added softness in the bristles, more varying intensity and phone app capability (told you they were techy)

CLAIMS:

  • Ultra hygienic since it uses silicone bristles

  • Removes 99.5% of dirt and dead skin cels

  • Provides a facial cleanse in 1 minutes, giving you smoother, softer and firmer skin

HOW TO USE:

1. Apply cleanser (site says to dampen your face - I personal don't, I just apply the cleanser straight to dry skin. Think about it, when you get a facial, does the professional wet your face with water first or place the cleanser straight onto your dry skin?) Wet LUNA mini and turn on

2. Cleanse - gently move the brush in circular motions over your face for 1 minute ( I can't recall, but I believe it vibrates and light flashes when the 1 minute is up - but it I just keep going until I'm done - it will auto off after 3 minutes)

3. Rinse - rinse and dry your face. ( I remove the cleanser by using a facial cleansing cloth - currently I'm using a warm to hot FaceHalo). Apply your other skincare products.

I personally use it at least once a day - definitely during my night time skin care, with my 2nd cleanse (I use a cleansing balm/oil to really remove any product on the skin - be it makeup or just SPF). I occasionally will use it in my morning cleanse - depending how I'm feeling or how rushed I am - sometimes I don't bother as my face isn't really dirty from just sleeping so I just use my hands and remove with a hot/warm wash cloth.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT

  • ONE charge last a long time, I don't have to charge this for months even though I use it daily. I can easily take it with me on trips (which I have multiple times)

  • It has 3 zones, 2 at the front for normal skin and 1 at the back designed for oil skin - I personally don't see a difference in the zones, but I like how i can really get around the nose area which is where I tend to get red, oily, white heads, and pimples.

  • The product is waterproof. For the longest time, I kept it in my shower and used it to cleanse my face when i'm in the shower, now days I keep it on the bathroom sink shelf where I keep my cleansers

HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO OTHERS IN THE LINE:

LUNA3 - this product is larger, has 12 speeds, and has an anti-ageing mode, and in app capabilities (RRP $299)

LUNA3 plus - same as the the Luna 3, but with added thermal facial cleansing at the front, and micro-current massage mode at the back (RRP $349 - exclusive to David Jones)

Luna 3 mini - the latest mini - its got softer and longer bristles, in app capabilities, a Glow Boost function (RRP $219)

Luna Go - smaller than the mini, only 1 speed, the different colours is supposedly for different skin types (other luna models, you just pick the colour dependent on your preference). Has an anti-ageing massage function on the back like the LUNA (RRP$149).

LUNA Fofo: uses 2 AAA batteries instead of a inbuilt rechargeable battery. App capability to customize your routine thanks to its sensors at the back (similar to the Luna 3 plus) . 2 cleansing zone (you loose a cleansing zone due to the sensors) (RRP$149)

Luna Play Plus - Same size as the GO/FOFO, uses 2 AAA battery, only one speed.(RRP$75)

Luna Play - smallest of the lot (size of a cotton round). Non rechargeable with up to 100 uses. (RRP$65)

WOULD I REPURCHASE? IS IT NECESSARY?

Is it necessary? The simple answer is no. Your hands and a wash cloth works fine, and if you double cleanse like I do you probably DON'T NEED a sonic cleanser. But hey it's nice to have. I love mine, and if it decides to die, I would fork out the $$$ to get another a new one - I would probably wait until there is a sale (its RRP is $219), and I might even opt for the full size Luna 3 plus (exclusive to David Jones).
